“I’ve never actually been in an Orthodox synagogue” many friends of Nefesh and Jewish Spirituality Australia have told me. For those of us who have spent most of our Jewish Lives in Reform, Progressive or Conservative contexts, attending an Orthodox service – especially on our own – may seem daunting and foreign. If you’ve been curious about Orthodox Shabbat Celebrations (and you live near Perth) join us for this week’s Shabbat “Excursion” to Perth Hebrew Congregation. We’ll meet in the lobby at 5:45 pm prior to the 6:00 pm Kabbalat Shabbat Service to answer any questions and ensure that we sit together in groups. at 7:15 pm following the Service, we’ll gather for our fortnightly bring-and-share meal, this time on Elstree Ave. in Menorah (contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org for the exact address). Our host is happy for us to bring veggie OR fish dishes to share. We also encourage you to bring a gift to replenish our supplies – such as bottles of grape juice or wine, or packages of serviettes, chocolate, tea or coffee. We look forward to sharing shabbat with you – all are welcome!
